A proposed site cannot be judged by acreage or distance alone. A useful review connects the building, power routes, generators, cooling equipment, roads, terrain, neighboring land uses, and the community's long-range plan.
WHAT TO EVALUATE
Identify the nearest receptor
Measure from actual equipment and building edges to current and planned homes, schools, parks, and other sensitive uses. Property-line distance is only a starting point.
Review the whole footprint
Include substations, transmission lines, fuel systems, water connections, construction traffic, emergency access, and future phases—not only the main building.
Plan screening for maturity
Landscape plans should name native species, installation sizes, mature canopy targets, survival requirements, replacement obligations, and long-term maintenance responsibility.

Is there one safe distance from homes?
No universal distance answers every siting question. Equipment placement, terrain, sound, screening, traffic, emergency planning, and future land use all affect compatibility.
What should residents request?
