A DMV Alliance briefing on Virginia groundwater limits, data center water-use questions, and public records for proposed sites east of Interstate 95.
WHY IT MATTERS IN THE DMV
Independent reporting connects Virginia DEQ’s Coastal Plain aquifer findings to data center proposals east of Interstate 95. The central public question is not whether a project uses the phrase “closed loop,” but which water source supplies each operating mode and how much is withdrawn and consumed during normal, peak, and drought conditions.
A project-level review should pair the statewide study with the site’s mechanical narrative, utility availability letters, water and sewer capacity records, withdrawal permits, drought plan, phased load, and enforceable reporting conditions.
